Release History
It's sometimes useful to install an older release package, for reasons such as testing (to see if a bug was newly introduced in a newer version, say) or compatibility (to build a game that depends on an old version of the compiler or library). Below is a list of past releases that we've archived, available as Windows and MS-DOS release packages and in source code form.
Non-Windows versions
We only archive the Windows and MS-DOS release packages and the base TADS source code. Release packages for other systems are separate projects (e.g., FrobTADS, QTads, and CocoaTADS). For past releases of one of those, please refer to the project's own Web site.
Installing multiple versions
On Windows, multiple TADS versions can usually coexist peacefully on the same machine, as long as you use a separate install folder and Start menu group for each version, which you can do by overriding the defaults in the SETUP dialog. You should also un-check the "Create file type associations" option when installing an older version, to retain the associations for your current version.
Version numbers
The 2.x.x version numbers listed are for the TADS 2 Virtual Machine engine and tools, and the 3.x.x versions are for the TADS 3 VM and tools. The HT-nn version tracks changes to the HTML TADS user interface. The VM engines are sometimes updated without any changes to the HTML layer, and vice versa, which is why you sometimes see the same HT-nn version in multiple releases.
